The new year is here and a lot of us are thinking about resolutions. When you are considering your plans for 2023, we encourage you to place your health high atop the priority list. Below are a few of our favorite tips for healthy living that you can use to promote your well-being in 2023.
1. Exercise Regularly
It is no secret that participating in regular physical activity is an extremely effective strategy that can support both mental and physical health. From our brains to our toes, there really is not any area of the body that does not benefit from regular exercise. So, if you have not already, make a commitment to engaging in aerobic exercise of some type for 30 minutes per day, five days a week in 2023.
2. Eat Nutritious Food
Diet has a huge influence on overall health. Everyone’s nutrition needs and preferences have unique characteristics but, in general, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains is a good foundation. Avoid the refined sugar and saturated fats. And if you are not sure how or where to start, a nutritionist or dietitian can give you an actionable plan to make a healthy diet a reality. Your healthcare practitioner should be able to make a recommendation.
3. Get Adequate Sleep Every Night
Sleep is hugely important to our health but so many people are willing to skip it in the name of productivity or endless energy. Why? Getting enough sleep feels good, it gives you real energy to have a good day, and it is just as important for your health as diet and exercise. Make it a point to get seven to nine hours of sleep every night.
4. Keep Up to Date With Medical Care
Are you current on all your doctor visits, checkups exams, dental cleanings, vaccinations, and all that stuff? If you are due for any preventative care, make your appointments today. There is often a wait to get into see medical providers so the sooner you have those scheduled and, on the calendar, the better. If you do not have a provider, check your insurance carrier’s website for healthcare professionals in your area.
5. Take Care of Your Mental Health
Mental health encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It influences how we think, feel, and act, and it affects how we handle stress and relate to others. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood through adulthood. Exercise, sleep, practicing gratitude, and even therapy are all ways to support your mental well-being.
