New Stride and childcare programs now in Norwalk/La Mirada on the Rancho Elementary School Campus.

Expanding our programs to better serve our community.

Francis of Assisi said, “Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” In 2020 the YMCA of Greater Whittier, like so many organizations, has been challenged by the pandemic. In March, we scaled back operations doing only what was necessary and nine months later we have exciting news that just months ago felt like an impossibility.

We are excited to report that our childcare services will now include infant care! Beginning is early January, at the Uptown YMCA Family Center we will begin supporting families with children as young as 6 weeks. We will be ready to serve our youngest community members in early January!

One of the goals from our strategic plan adopted in 2018,was to expand our programming deeper into our Service Area. Earlier this year we began conversations with the Norwalk/La Mirada Unified School District to utilize the Rancho Elementary School campus which was no longer operating in their district. Beginning today we are excited to offer all-day school-age care, Preschool ages 2-5 and coming soon, infant care. Additionally, we will begin enrolling adults age 21+ (Regional Center Clients) to our new Stride program also located at the Rancho Elementary School Campus.

Just a reminder that we are offering outdoor fitness at our East Whittier Family Center. Stay tuned for more outdoor fitness programming coming soon to our East Whittier Family Center and other locations in Whittier and the Rancho Elementary Campus.

We look forward to providing these programs to you and more of our neighbors across our service area.
